Continuing Education.....for life.

Wow - been slacking on this blogging thing, eh?!  Well here's a little plan to get me back on track.

In January I got to visit Mexico (my Mommy came with me - insert collective sigh *here*) along with about 800 other stylists/guests and people in the industry for an amazing week of education.  No better way to study for sure....once I get some more pictures sorted, I'll share a whole blog post on THAT trip!!

While I was there though, I had the honour of meeting the amazing Vivienne Mackinder.  Now, I'm going to be bold here and honest - I didn't know who she was until about a week before I left and I ran into my hairdressing instructor from back in the day who was SUPER excited for me to go and see her present.   That got my interest peaked....

Well, Vivienne is AMAZING and SO inspiring!!  I really enjoyed her presentation style and her honesty.  Her theories and the looks she completed were right up my alley and I just felt like THIS was someone I could look up to in all aspects of her work.  On the last day she gave us all an offer of a discount on her Editorial Styling class and I was beyond excited as I had just spent the last 2.5 hours on the edge of my seat watching Vivienne work her magic on stage.

So, now here we are.  Two weeks back home and I'm just submitting my first assignment online.  There's a total of 60 assignments that I photo-document and get feedback in return.  The first is probably my biggest blow-drying challenge in the salon: flat and sleek hair with a 9-row brush and blow-dryer only.  No flat irons here!  I needed a nice, square bob to do this exercise on, so I scoured the salon for a mannequin to use and found one that would work.  But I had to cut the bob first - thank goodness I got the HDTV Classic Membership and was able to watch a tutorial video on the how-to to polish up on this very exact technique!

Above, left, is the mannequin I'd played with colour and cut a little already and had the length to cut a square bob (this is one with NO layers, NO beveling and is a TRUE one-length, or solid-form cut)

I tried the technique a couple times before choosing to submit.  Here's the first attempt, second attempt and then the second attempt with a little product (the two first ones are without product at all)

Only getting better!

These are the photos I had to submit:

So, we'll see how she goes over!  Wish me luck and check back to follow my progress through the course!
