First Week Results Are In....

Well, my first three submissions for Vivienne Mackinder's 16-week Editorial Styling Course online have been graded!  I'm happy with the scores I received and more so now I've learned what they're looking for, so I can get better results from here.

First - the "Denman Flat and Sleek" - one of my biggest challenges as I tend to work with a round brush and enjoy adding body to the hair.  First off, Vivienne LOVED the colour!  Yay!!

I ended up with 8/10 for this one - 4/5 for technical and 4/5 for creative.  My perimeter lines are a little distorted, need to make sure my blow-dry does my cut justice!

The second blow-dry was the "Denman Movement" which I felt pretty good about.  I had fun doing this cut (although, I took it too short! How many times do I tell students to make sure you cut it LONG the first time?  I should listen to myself - I'm pretty smart! LOL)

I got a 10/10 for this one!  YAY!!!!!  No product in the blowout either (except a little Joico Kpak Restorative Oil to protect the hair from heat)  Very proud!

The last blow-dry assignment, the "Smooth Roundbrush" was, surprisingly my weakest.  This is where I thought I would do the best. Probably getting ahead of myself - going and thinking I'm awesome and therefore not taking the time to do it PROPERLY.  There were a few critiques she shared about the cut in relation to the client (which I understood and agreed with, but my client likes it the length/style it is, so what am I to do?) which adversely affected my grade on the Creative side, along with a "busy" backdrop (only a 3/5) but there is also a few problems in the back for the blow-dry, which is where I probably just figured I knew what I was doing and didn't really FOCUS.  Really, that's unacceptable.......and I paid the price of 7/10 for this one.

Coming along and now I have a base-line for what they're looking for.  This week I'm working on using the roundbrush with movement which I usually feel confident with.  I think I'll take a cue from the last one I felt confident on though and take more time to focus - wanna keep those 10/10's coming!!!
